Let me tell you what I witnessed in Seoul last winter.. It was my third visit to Korea, so I had some idea what it's like (..I had attained some practical knowledge on where to go, what do avoid, how to deal with people, etc.) But, I didn't know what to do when this happened.. mMMMm | | c U U P ______________oOOo____________________oOOo_________________ It was nearing the end of evening rush hour and Kyo-dae subway station (int. of #3 & #2 lines) was overwhelming by anxious commuters wanting to go home.. at least that's what I thought.. I did not notice anything extraordinary from a gentleman (mid-50's) reading a paper while waiting for a train.. Until a young lady passed by him casually and snatched a note from his left hand, which was partially consealed by the paper. And the lady kept walking and disappeared into the crowd.. My initialy reaction: ??? Duhhhhh..????!?!?! I was wondering if I saw everything correctly, so I simply stood there.. The man stood there only for 2-3 extra minutes before he walked away. Usaually, my curiosity and sense of adventure kicks in about this moment.. (especially when I was coming back from 빵구난 미팅 and had plenty of time to kill)... I don't know why I didn't curiously follow(tail) one of them. Perhaps because I didn't suspect them any more than just "strange" people and didn't think there would be any 007-like 'spies' in my community (well, ex-community).. About three days later, in the same #2-line subway train, I saw a poster saying, "REWARD: W~1,500,000(~$2,200) for REPORTING spy and ~W4,000,000(~$5,000) for ARREST/CAPTURING them." (Well, that was not the theme of the poster, but certainly captured my attention. :) My final reaction: "아깝다~!!" (It's more money than average Scratch-n-Win) __________________________________________________________________ I am now almost certain that they were North Korean spies (of course they could have been CIA agents too, but ..) I should have observed him more carefully when he was reading 7-day-past North Korean newspaper, right?? If any of you go to Korea .. be on a look out for People reading paper in the evening time.. who knows.. they could be worth a lot more than you imagine... Both for the National security and for your financial security! |
