Position Profile: Controls Engineer ====== Scope: ====== Under general direction, the position is responsible for the design, development and fabrication of the controls and electronic instrumentation for the complete product lines of Process Equipment. Responsible for accomplishing the established objectives and goals of the engineering and operations departments as they relate to the technical discipline in support of the organization's overall strategic plan. =========== Reports to: =========== Operations ================= Responsibilities: ================= * Responsible for the electrical/electronic controls and instrumentation design and manufacturing including development of the conceptual design and detailed panel layouts, wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, acting as the shop liaison for testing, debugging at the vendor, writing programs, and vendor management. * Extensive involvement with all technical publications pertaining to the controls and instrumentation equipment of all product lines, including the responsibility for writing operating instructions and description of operation for all controls. * Responsible for field telephone support of the instrumentation and control functions of the equipment including installation, repair service assistance and specification development. Provide sales staff with technical expertise to assist with customer specific needs requirements. * Responsible for producing reports including schedules, vendor management, vendor reviews and project status. Involvement with all levels of staff on issues pertaining to the controls engineering function. * Maintain current technical knowledge of the processes and techniques involved with electronic/electrical engineering, control logic, and process integration. Selection and application of appropriate controls technologies for continued superiority and quality of the products and organization. * Responsible for establishing and ensuring safety and reliability procedures within the organization and designing equipment products that meet safety codes, standards and regulations. =========== Experience: =========== * Five to ten years of progressively responsible electrical/electronic engineering positions within related industries with emphasis on customer specification development and vendor management. * Knowledge of software and its application to controls, temperature probes, speed sensing equipment and hydraulics. * Experience with OEM equipment control design, panel layout controls design, machine interface. Knowledge of NEMA, NEC, and NPPA codes, TQM methodologies, VFD and CAD (CADKEY). * Effective communicator with all levels of personnel both internal and external including customers, sales and vendors.
