Students to design "smart card" for Mercedes Benz Computer science students enrolled in "Software Engineering 15-413" will be working for German transportation and industrial giant Daimler Benz this semester as they design a "smart card" containing a Java-programmed chip offering service options to owners of Mercedes Benz's new M-class car. The project, called JAMES, an acronym for Java Architecture for Mobil Extended Service, is being directed by School of Computer Science Senior Systems Scientists Bernd Bruegge, who says the smart card is a way for Mercedes Benz to focus on service and maintenance history.
